Hockaday summer activities
The Hockaday Museum of Art presents the 46th consecutive Arts in the Park festival Friday through Sunday, July 18 - 20 in downtown Kalispell’s Depot Park at Main and Center Streets.
Kalispell’s premiere arts festival is the Hockaday’s primary annual fundraiser and features over 100 juried local and visiting artists and craftsmen. Daily admission to the festival will be $3 and children age 6 & under are admitted free with their family. Purchase of a $5 Weekend Pass button gives the bearer unlimited admission to the festival all three days, as well as unlimited admission to the Hockaday Museum of Art during the festival.
Festival hours for 2014 are 10 am to 7 pm Friday and Saturday and 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday. Musical entertainment begins at 10 am on Friday and 11:00 am on Saturday and Sunday with the full schedule of performers and times listed on hockadaymuseum.org. A new premium wine and beer garden hosted by John’s Angels Catering will open at 11:30 am each day and offer an array of fine wines and local microbrews. Wine and beer tastings held at 1 pm and 5 pm on Friday and Saturday will provide guests with the opportunity to try several wines or microbrews paired with specialty meats and cheeses.
A tantalizing lineup of food choices this year includes Mexican, barbecue, crepes, noodles, pizza, hand-dipped corn dogs, shave ice, kettle corn, fry bread as well as ice cream and fresh-squeezed lemonade. An expanded list of children’s activities is comprised of a rock climbing wall, bungee bouncer, facepainting, art projects and an ImagineIF Libraries photo booth.
The art experience doesn’t end in Depot Park as the $5 Weekend Pass button also includes unlimited admission to the Hockaday Museum of Art during the festival. During Arts in the Park, the Hockaday’s current exhibitions include A Journey through History: Art and Artifacts from the Collection of Dr. Van Kirke and Helen Nelson, as well as works by numerous local artists who participated in the 2014 Plein Air Paint Out around Glacier National Park and the Flathead Valley.
Museum visitors may also enjoy the Crown of the Continent permanent exhibition featuring the art and artists of Montana and Glacier National Park. Four fully restored murals are on display in the Museum, rescued from Glacier National Park lodges that were updated in the 1950s.
The Hockaday Museum has art on sale from its recent Plein Air Paint Out.
All of the art is offered for sale at fixed prices as it hangs in the Hockaday’s Community Access Gallery through July 19. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these paintings benefits the Hockaday Museum of Art’s exhibition and education programs. Copyright for all pieces in this album belongs to the respective artists. For more information about purchasing paintings, please contact the Hockaday Museum at 755.5268.
Volunteers are needed for the Hockaday Museum of Arts’ art festival July 17-20.
If you are available to help with tasks such as set-up, hosting at the Hockaday booth and tearing down on Sunday night, call the Museum at 755.5268.
