DeWit assistant coach at Tech

She was a standout basketball player at Columbia Falls High School and in college at Montana Tech in Butte. Now Kelsey DeWit will help coach the Oredigger team she played with for four years.

DeWit was recently named an assistant coach for Tech’s women’s basketball team, working under first-year coach Carly VanDyke.

DeWit graduated from Columbia Falls in 2010 and scored more than 1,000 career points during her four years with the Orediggers. She also was the all-time leader in blocks for the women’s program. Now she hopes to pass some of her basketball acumen to the players. DeWit played with many of them and is looking forward to the challenge. She’s still attending college, finishing up her dual-major in business management and health information technology.

DeWit’s been helping out the team for a while, but was officially named an assistant last week.

Will DeWit consider a career in coaching? Perhaps.

“We’ll see how it goes and see what opportunities arise,” she said.

DeWit has one interesting coaching challenge this season. Butte will play Montana State University-Billings this season, where her younger sister Kayla plays for the Lady Yellowjackets.

“I think I can come up with a plan for her,” DeWit quipped.
