Twins split at Ed Gallo tourney

The Glacier Twins A team went 2-2 at the 25th Ed Gallo American Legion baseball tournament last week.

They opened the tournament with a loss to the Williston Keybirds 11-4 on June 26, but battled back the next day to beat the Missoula Prospects 13-1, as Jonny Sapa threw a one-hitter. The Twins also knocked off the Bitterroot Reds 9-1.

But on Saturday, the Kalispell Lakers dropped the Twins 10-3 and eventually went on to beat the Keybirds 11-10 for the title.

In the win over the Prospects, Sapa fanned seven hitters over five innings in the rout. Colten Parker had a double, Vincent Smith went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Tristan Steinwand went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Vincent Smith went 2 for 3 with a triple.

Against the Lakers, the Twins were up 2-1 after two innings, but Kalispell tallied three runs in the third and added two, one and three more runs in the fourth through the sixth innings as they cruised to the win. Austin Robins took the loss for the Twins.

On June 24, the Glacier Twins B team lost a doubleheader to Libby, 8-7 and 14-5, but the A team beat Kootenai Valley 5-4 and 8-5 in a doubleheader.

On June 30 the Twins beat Libby in a thriller, 11-8.

As of June 30, the Twins were 8-3 in conference play and 22-8 overall. They face Bitterroot away on Saturday and Missoula away on Sunday.
