Baseball sign-ups

Registration has started for Glacier Babe Ruth baseball for 13-15 year olds. To register, visit online at www.glacierbaberuth.com and click on “registration” to print the form. Those who mail the form in before Jan. 31 will receive a $5 discount. For more information, call Ray Queen at 253-0857.

Pitching clinic

Whitefish Cal Ripken will sponsor a coaches pitching clinic at The Wave in Whitefish on Jan. 18-19 from 9 a.m. to noon. Steve Ontiveros, a Major League pitcher for 11 years, will teach fundamentals of pitching for coaches. He pitched for the Oakland Athletics, Phillies, Red Sox, Angels and Mariners. He was the ERA champ in 1995 and was chosen for the All Star Team in mid-1990s. This is a great opportunity for Babe Ruth coaches to learn more about pitching. Cross-country ski race

The Glacier Nordic Club’s annual Glacier Glide Freestyle Race will take place Sunday, Jan.19, at the Glacier Nordic Center on the Whitefish Lake Golf Course with races for every age — the Cookie Scramble, 1K, 4K, 9K and 18K. Registration is 9-10 a.m. for the 9K and 18K races at 10:30 a.m. Registration is 10:45-11:30 a.m. for the Cookie Scramble, 1K and 4K races at noon. The Cookie Scramble and 1K is free for 18 and under. Entry fees for other races is $10 under 18 and $20 other races. Entry fee includes post-race chili at the Whitefish Lake Restaurant.

Roller derby

The Misfits of Flathead Valley Roller Derby will take on the Junction City team from Ogden, Utah, at the Flathead County Fairgrounds Trade Center on Saturday, Jan. 18. The two teams bouted for the first time in October in Ogden with Junction City taking home the win. The Misfits are now have a full roster, with more new players having made the team in December tryouts. Tickets are $8 in advance, available at Super 1 in Columbia Falls, and $10 at the door. Proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will go to Jason Guyman to assist with medical bills following a shooting accident last year.
