It took them awhile to get going, but the Columbia Falls boys basketball team was able to drop Libby 60-38 at home Feb. 21.

The Wildcats were led by Jared Trinastich, who had a monster game to wrap up the regular season with 24 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, leading the team with 11-for-15 shooting.

The game was closer than the score would suggest. The Loggers were down by just two at the break on hot shooting by senior guard Jared Winslow, who ended the game with 23 points.

But the Cats out rebounded the Loggers 33-18 and had just six turnovers. So while their shooting was cold for 2-plus quarters, their defense kept them in it.

Libby meanwhile, finished the regular season 0–8 in conference play and 1-17 overall.

Grant Stenger had a solid game off the bench with six rebounds and a solid defensive effort for the Cats. Ty Morgan and Alex Presnell had 10 points apiece.

The Cats finished the season 7-1 in conference play and 14-4 overall. They have a first-round bye in the Northwest Class A divisional playoffs and then play the winner of the Polson-Libby game on Friday night at 6 p.m.

The Cats just have to take it one game at a time, Finberg said. The season is reset at 0-0, he noted. From here on out, the Cats need to go undefeated to have post-season success.
