The Columbia Falls wrestling squad wrapped up its regular season with two dual wins last week. The MatCats downed Polson, 53-23 and Frenchtown 43-36 in the Jan. 31 home matches.

They ended the regular season 22-2 in duals — one the best marks for the program ever.

Columbia Falls had pins by Colton Gove (138) and Cody Walters (160). Wyatt Green (132), Zyne Brunz, (145), Bryan Shaffer (152), and Kaleb Gravelin (120) all won by decision.

Polson gave up forfeits at 98, 106, 113 and 285 pounds. Without the forfeits, it was an even dual.

Individual results for the Frenchtown match were not available.

The boys will travel to Libby this Saturday for the Northwest Class A divisional tournament, where they are favored to take the title.

Coach Jessie Schaeffer said the cats will look to get get some wrestlers up from the 2-3 positions to the 1-2 positions in order to get good seeds at the state tournament the next week.

“I don’t want to overlook divisionals, but ultimately our goal is to bring home some hardware at the state tournament,” he said.

The hope is to qualify 19 wrestlers for state, Schaeffer noted.
