History and wildlife on tap at museum lectures
<p>Wildlife biologist and local author Doug Chadwick will speak of his experiences exploring ecosystems from Siberia to the Congo, and Canada to Northwest Montana on Feb. 22.</p>
The Museum at Central School, 124 Second Avenue East in Kalispell, will present talks on local history and wildlife with the 13th annual John White Lecture Series.
Four presentations will take place on alternate Sundays in January and February starting Jan. 8 starting at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for museum members are $20 for the series or $6 for any single event. General public tickets are $30 for the series or $9 for any single event. Tickets are available at the museum or at the door before each event. For more information, call 756-8381.
• The lecture series will start on Jan. 8 with University of Montana history professor Anya Jabour speaking on “Montana Women in History.” Jabour has published several books and articles on U.S. women's history and the history of families and children in the U.S. She is currently working on a biography of an early twentieth-century feminist, Sophonisba Breckinridge.
• Two local couples will speak on “Flathead Memories” on Jan. 25. Cliff and Lynda Collins were among the founding members of the Northwest Montana Historical Society and the Museum at Central School. Bill and Lois McClaren are well known throughout the valley. Bill is the last living founder of Flathead Valley Community College.
• Mary Jane Bradbury will present a living history representation of Montana artist Charlie Russell’s wife, Nancy Cooper Russell, on Feb. 8. Nancy Russell is credited with helping her husband become the highest paid living artist of his time. Bradbury draws on over 25 years as an actress, speaker, educator and author to bring history to life.
• Wildlife biologist and local author Doug Chadwick will speak of his experiences exploring ecosystems from Siberia to the Congo, and Canada to Northwest Montana on Feb. 22. Chadwick received a master’s in wildlife biology from the University of Montana. He is the author of 11 books and produced hundreds of articles for publications for National Geographic, Reader’s Digest and the New York Times Review of Books.
