Local results from the Northwest Montana Fair

Despite two days of rain, Northwest Montana Fair officials say attendance numbers should be about the same as last year, when total gate attendance was 75,607 visitors.

About half an inch of rain fell on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15-16, making the grandstand arena area slick for viewers and rodeo participants.

Rodeo judges halted the barrel racing on Friday after a horse slipped in the mud, but judges allowed the event to proceed the next day despite more rain.

For the first time, the fair made money on its Christian genre concert. A total of 1,219 people showed up on Tuesday, Aug. 12, and the fair netted about $363 from the show.

There was a delay in opening the carnival, and one of the food vendors wasn’t allowed to open until they cleaned up their place. Some of the food vendors had run afoul of health officials earlier in Missoula.

Attendance was down at the demolition derby, and so was the number of cars. Only eight cars registered ahead of time, and a ninth showed up at the start of the event on Sunday.
