Marvin Torgerson

Marvin “Buzz” Torgerson, 78, died July 30, 2014, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer

Buzz was born Oct. 19, 1935, to Marvin and Mary Torgerson. He grew up in Coalridge, graduating from Antelope High School in 1952. Growing up , he was an avid baseball and basketball player. His love of sports continued throughout his entire life.

In 1956, he married Norma Handy and together they had three children.

In 1969, Buzz moved to the Flathead Valley. He began work at the Anaconda Aluminum Co. plant, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. During his time at the plant, he was an active member of AFL-CIO Union. 

In 1976, he and Norma divorced. He married Irene Maeder in 1980. Buzz and Irene shared their life until his death. Together they enjoyed many activities, such as camping and bowling.

Buzz was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; brothers Glen, Art and Gene; and brothers-in-law Andy Anderson and Lyle Steffins.

He is survived by his wife Irene; children Judy Kreiter and husband Barry, Sherry Attard and husband John, Kim Torgerson and husband Richard Carrier, Becky Speight and husband Tim, and Stacy Hyatt and husband Chuck; sisters Lois Anderson, Alma Steffins, and Barb Blackwell and husband Ken; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his good friends Jerry and Vonda Seliger and Dean and Laurine Mace.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Volunteer Hospice or St. Jude’s Hospital in Spokane, Wash.
