The Columbia Falls softball team had an up-and-down week, going 2-3 over five games.

The Wildkats lost to Flathead 9-1 at home on April 22 and then lost to Ronan 10-7 away on April 24. The Kats then traveled to the Frenchtown tournament on April 25-26, where they beat Belgrade 6-3, and Butte Central 7-3, but lost to Hamilton, 4-2.

In the Belgrade win, the Kats were led by senior Tiffany Hummer, who went 2 for 3 and scored two runs. Against Butte Central, Ashley Trueblood doubled and drove in three runs in addition to pitching the complete game.

A raft of errors doomed the Kats’ chances against the Flathead Bravettes at home. Trueblood struck out eight, but didn’t get much defensive help. The Bravettes’ Kylee Meredith hit a three-run homer in the top of the second after the Kats kept the inning alive with a catching error in centerfield with two out.

Flathead added two in the top of the third and four in the top of the fifth. The Kats had three errors alone in the fifth inning.

The Kats also didn’t hit the ball well. Hummer went 2 for 4 with a double and Courtney Murray had the Kats’ lone RBI. But the rest of the lineup had too many 0-fers to be effective.

The girls have just one game on the schedule this week, against Whitefish at home on Saturday. Varsity start is 4 p.m.

The Kats are now 3-5-1 for the season.
