The Columbia Falls tennis teams were battered by 50 mph winds at the Cut Bank Invitational last week, but they still got plenty of wins and matches in despite the weather.

On the girls side, the Wildkats beat Fergus County 4-3, but lost to Havre 7-0 to open the tournament April 18. The girls came back to beat Libby on Saturday, 6-1, but lost to Cut Bank, 4-2.

On the boys side, the Wildcats lost to Fergus 5-2 and Havre 6-1 on the opening day and then to Cut Bank 5-2 and Libby 5-2 on Saturday. Polson won the tournament.

“I was happy to see every Wildkat player win at least one match,” girls coach Jerry Smalley said.

The Polson match scheduled for April 17 at home was rained out. The teams traveled to Libby on Tuesday after presstime, then face Flathead and Glacier high schools at home on Thursday. Matches start at 1 p.m. After that, they travel to Flathead on Saturday for a tournament there.
