The Lady Bulldogs volleyball squad has been on the road since their season-opening match in late August. Long bus trips and overnights to the Bitterroot and Anaconda have been the norm so far this year.

“It’s tough to be on the road so much,” said Whitefish coach Sarah Scott. “Last year we enjoyed having a home court advantage. It’s been different with the girls not playing in front of a big home crowd yet.”

Whitefish goes on the road one more time — Thursday at Frenchtown — before they finally get to take to their home floor this Saturday against Anaconda.

The home match will mark the first official organized sporting event played in the recently remodeled Whitefish gym.

“We were the first team to practice in there and we will be the first to compete there,” Scott said. “It’s exciting for us.”

The Lady Bulldogs look to be strong defensively as coach Scott pushes her girls to be better students of the game.

“A goal of ours is to play really smart volleyball,” Scott said. “To analyze and adjust to other teams. So far they have shown they can do that. We hope to get better as the season progresses.”

The team is led by three senior captains, Brittany Barnes, Marlow Schulz and Bekah Weaver.

“Brittany has been rocking it in the back row,” Scott said. “She’s providing us with consistency on defense.”

Schulz has improved her blocking and could be a big threat on offense.

Weaver will bring consistency as a setter.

Whitefish’s home match on Saturday begins at 1 p.m.
