Bob fundraiser
The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation is hosting its seventh annual Voices of the Wilderness Art Exhibit and Silent Auction on Nov. 8, at the Alpine Ballroom located 333 Main St. in Kalispell at 7 p.m. Voices of the Wilderness is an art exhibit, silent auction and fundraiser highlighting participants of the Artist-Wilderness-Connections, an artist-in-residence program coordinated by the Flathead National Forest, Hockaday Museum of Art and Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation. Musical guests the Spring Wagon String Band will play old time Appalachian Bluegrass. Insights into the Artist-Wilderness-Connections experience will be illustrated through a video documentary. “The Logan-Dirtyface Sessions” is a video presentation created by Mandy Mohler during her artist-in-residency experience alongside Josh Harvey and Bettreena Jaeger who created musical and photographic elements respectively. The group’s collective art is all inspired by their time spent at the Spruce Park Cabin in the Great Bear Wilderness. Tickets are $15 and include one free drink and dessert as well as entry to the auction and presentation portion of the evening. Tickets to either or both portions of the evening can be purchased online at http://www.bmwf.org/events.html or at the door. Space is limited, so guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. All proceeds benefit the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation. Auction items include oil and watercolor paintings, photography, pottery, leatherwork, fabric art, handmade jewelry, cast iron and more. A five-day pack trip with Swan Mountain Outfitters is the grand prize raffle item. Proceeds from this event help the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation keep trails open in The Bob and helps to strengthen the next generation of wilderness stewards by getting kids into the woods.
Park Conservancy opens retail store
Glacier National Park Conservancy opened their retail sales outlet on the U.S. 2 strip in Columbia Falls on Nov. 1 with plans for special shopping opportunities in November and December. The store will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. Purchases will help fund projects in Glacier Park. For more information, visit online at http://glacierconservancy.org.
Skiing Films
Bluebird Guides and Outside Media will mark season five of Whitefish Mountain Films with two full evenings of films. Different films will be shown each night. Mike Douglas, the “Godfather of Freeski,” an award-winning filmmaker from Whistler, B.C., will be the emcee. The first event will be at the Kalispell Eagles Club in Kalispell on Friday, Nov. 8, with doors opening at 6 p.m., films starting at 7 p.m. and an after-party and concert at the Eagles Club. The second will be at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish on Saturday, Nov. 9, with doors opening at 5 p.m., films starting at 6 p.m. and an after-party at the Great Northern Bar. Tickets are $12 per night or $20 for both nights available online at www.whitefishmountainfilms.com or at Outside Media in Columbia Falls. The event is a non-profit fundraiser for Whitefish Legacy Partners and Flathead Nordic Ski Patrol. Food, beverages and raffle tickets will be available for purchase before the films and during intermission.
