Samantha Mundel nabbed all-state honors with a ninth-place finish at the state Class A cross country meet in Missoula last week.

Mundel clocked a 19:31.80 in the Oct. 26 race and the girls took eighth as a team. Coach Richard Menicke said Mundel got caught in the crowd at the start and was 30th with just 800 meters to go, so she did an excellent job to make up the ground.

On the boys’ side, senior James Ratzlaff was the top finisher, taking 46th with a time of 17:46.11. The boys were 14th as a team.

“It was great end to a very rewarding season,” Menicke said. “We had a tremendous group of kids, very happy for the success they enjoyed progressing in sport and as fine representative of Columbia Falls this season.”
