Mundel second at Whitefish
So close. Columbia Falls cross-country runner Samantha Mundel took second at the Whitefish Invitational Oct. 11 to end the regular season.
The junior ran the course in 18:56.36, just 12 seconds behind Whitefish’s Sarah Latcham, who won the event.
Coach Richard Menicke said Mundel started her kick just a little too early and Latcham was able to catch her.
“The girls are running well,” Menicke said. “The entire team had personal bests.”
Mundel’s time shaved another second off the Columbia Falls girls cross-country record. The girls took second behind Whitefish.
On the boys side, the Wildcats were paced by Zayne Brunz, who took ninth at 17:19.10. He was followed by Glenn Morden, who has been running strong lately and ran a 17:30.56 to take 12th.
As a team, the boys were fourth behind Frenchtown. Whitefish won the event.
The teams return to Whitefish on Saturday for the Northwest Class A divisional meet at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course. Races start at noon.
