The Plum Creek Foundation presented a $3,000 check to Farming for the Future Academy on Oct. 4 at the Veterans Home in Columbia Falls, where the Academy is located. The money will be used to purchase curriculum software for the academy’s computer tablets.

FFA is a nonprofit school serving students with or without disabilities, with a focus on children on the autism spectrum. The goal is to reduce societal barriers for children through education and life-skills lessons using agriculture and cooperative business as a medium.

Students are exposed to technology as the academy integrates touch-screen tablet technology into the curriculum. The tablets are used to teach students core curriculums of math, reading and writing.

FFA has secured in-kind donations from the Montana Veterans Home, Flathead Electric Cooperative’s Round-Up for Safety, Montana Veterans Memorial Fund, Whitefish Soroptimist, Sue Haverfield, Meredith Construction, ProBuild, Lilienthal Insulation, Stoltze Land & Lumber Co., Jane and Henry Ratzlaff, Barb and Tom Huntsinger, Angie’s Greenhouse, BlueX and Double A Vineyards.
