Sun Road ranked among 10 most picturesque roads
Glacier National Park’s iconic and historic Going-to-the-Sun Road was named one of the 10 most picturesque country drives in the U.S. by Country magazine.
The magazine is published by the Reader’s Digest Association and has a circulation of 862,092, ranking it 99th in the U.S.
In an article by Donna Ulrich and illustrated with photographs by Larry Ulrich, the Sun Road is described as “scary, exhilarating and breathtaking” and a “real-life version of Jurassic Park — but without the dinosaurs.”
“If the steep, narrow hairpin turns above the intimidating guardrail-free drop-offs don’t take your breath away, the northwest Montana vistas along the scenic roads will,” the story states.
Other picturesque country drives making Country magazine’s list included the Oregon Coast Highway, the Door County Coastal Byway in Wisconsin, Utah’s Red Rock Country, the Natchez Trace Parkway in the South, the Blue Grass Valley Road in the Allegheny Mountains, the Mount Desert Island Park Loop Road in Maine, the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway in Idaho, Alaska’s Seward Highway, and Route 706 around Mount Rainier.
