The Whitefish girls tennis team will be well represented at this year’s state tournament after a strong Northwestern A divisional meet last week in Kalispell.

Lindsey Viscomi and Megan Danczyk won the doubles title, Kendall Sattler and Haley Craven took third in doubles and Ryan Chauner placed fourth in singles action.

All totaled, the Lady Dogs score 45 points for second place, just off Polson’s winning total of 55.

“Going in I figured Polson had a slight edge, and that’s how it worked out,” Whitefish coach Patrick Dryden said. “It was a well-played tournament.”

Every player on Whitefish’s roster scored points for the team.

Viscomi and Danczyk earned a No. 1 seed in this week’s Class A state tournament in Polson. The duo never dropped a set in the divisional meet.

“They have been improving every week, and playing with a level confidence I have never seen before,” Dryden said. “It seems like they are just pouncing at the net.”

The team will face off with the No. 4 seeded team from Lewistown in the first round.

Sattler and Craven battled at divisional to earn a No. 3 seed at state. The recently formed duo has only played together for a few weeks.

Dryden says their on-court chemistry stands out and their games compliment each other.

“They’ve got potential,” Dryden said.

Chauner worked hard at divisional to take fourth, and used her fitness to outlast the competition.

“Ryan kept her cool and was level headed,” Dryden said. “She’s in good shape. Some of her matches went for more than two hours.”

Dryden also noted the play of doubles team Caroline Carbo and Lauren Cain, who took fifth at divisional.

“They came within a whisker of qualifying for state,” he said.

Sloan Ellis also had a strong run at divisional, Dryden said, but ran into tough competition in the semi-finals.

The Class A state tourney begins Thursday at Polson.
