Track teams peaking as season draws to an end

The Columbia Falls track team did some final tune-ups last week as they prepared for the Northwest Class A Divisional meet this Friday and Saturday in Whitefish.

On May 9, the teams squared off against Glacier High School at a dual in Kalispell. On May 11, they traveled to Polson for the ABC meet.

At Glacier, the team “simulated” what competition they could face at divisionals. At Polson, they simulated the Saturday events, coach Jamie Heinz said .

“I’m really happy with where we’re at,” he said.

The athletes are peaking at the right time of the season, Heinz noted.

At Glacier, Josiah Osborne won the 100 meters at 11.68, and Angela Tamburelli won the girls 100 at 13.64. Luke Kazlauskas was second in the 400 at 52.93.

In Polson, Osborne won the 200 at 23.14. Nakia Alexander took second in the high jump with a 20-foot even leap.

On the girls side, Summer Burlage broke onto the leader board in the long jump at 16-1/2, good enough for second place.

The girls could surprise some teams in the divisional tournament, Heinz noted. They have enough athletes scoring enough points in each event.

The competition will start at 3 p.m. Friday with the girls pole vault and boys triple jump and discus. Running start at 4 p.m. with the 400 meter relays. Competition will resume Saturday at noon.
