A 57-year-old Columbia Falls man was Tased and arrested after a high speed chase on Saturday.

According to police reports, a Columbia Falls officer reported seeing a westbound vehicle traveling more than 50 mph in a 25 mph zone on the U.S. 2 strip about 1:35 p.m.

As the officer began to pursue the vehicle, it turned off U.S. 2 into a residential area and then circled back so it was heading eastbound on U.S. 2.

The vehicle’s speeds reached 100 mph after it left the city limits. When the officer caught up to the vehicle, he saw that it had crashed into traffic signs at the intersection of U.S. 2 and Highway 206 and was disabled.

The driver, Michael Scott, was hit by a Taser when he allegedly resisted arrest. He allegedly failed a field sobriety test and admitted to using prescription drugs.

Scott was charged with reckless driving, eluding a police officer, DUI, no insurance and resisting arrest. He had two prior convictions for DUI on his record.
