More roads open in Glacier Park
More roads have opened to motor vehicles in Glacier National Park, and snowplow crews on the Going-to-the-Sun Road are getting closer to Logan Pass.
West side Park plow crews are now beyond Big Bend on the Sun Road, about three miles from Logan Pass. On the east side, plows are at Siyeh Bend, and the Sun Road is now open to motor vehicles as far as Jackson Glacier Overlook.
Elsewhere in the Park, the Quarter Circle Bridge, Chief Mountain, Two Medicine and Many Glacier roads are open to motor vehicles.
There will be no hiker/biker restrictions on the Sun Road beyond Avalanche Creek on Saturday and Sunday. On the east side, hikers and bikers are restricted to less than one mile beyond the gate at the Jackson Glacier Overlook.
There is no hiking and biking access allowed on the Sun Road beyond Avalanche Creek on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. because of construction activity.
Visitors to Glacier Park should be extremely cautious around lakes and streams. The water is running high and swift and near flood stage on many of the rivers because of warm weather and snow runoff.
The North Fork of the Flathead River is expected to rise to just below flood stage late Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Missoula.
