The Bigfork High School girls tennis team won two of three matches last week and will compete at the divisional tournament at Eureka this weekend.

The Valkyries defeated St. Ignatius 4-2 on May 1. The victory include two forfeits in doubles play. Shelby Scoggins and Alanis Stallknecht each won singles matches.

At Troy on Friday, the Vals won 4-2. Stallknecht, Mariah Bradstreet and Lana Berg each won singles matches, while the team of Alauna Weilacher and Kayla Casalegno was victorious in doubles play.

On Saturday, the Vals lost at home against Whitefish, 5-2. Scoggins and Lana Berg won in singles play.

Coach Paul Wallin said the Vals’ performance was “up and down. We lost a few matches we shouldn’t have. It was a preparation issue.”

Wallin said that Scoggins and Stallknecht will be the team’s No. 1 doubles team at the divisional in Eureka, and Brooke Bonner/Madison Fraley will be the No. 2 team.

Bradstreet will be the Vals’ No. 1 singles player. Five players were battling it out for the other three singles positions, he said.

Vikes lose three

The Vikings lost all three matches they played last week, falling to St. Ignatius 4-2, Troy 5-1 and Whitefish 4-3.

The doubles teams of Logan Lamm/Seth Roessmann and Adam Jordt/Isaac Martel won against Mission.

At Troy, Bigfork’s lone win was provided by Guvanch Agajumayev.

Roessmann, Agajumayev and Lamm each won in singles action against Whitefish.

There is no boys divisional, Wallin said.

The boys and girls state tournaments will be held in Missoula beginning May 13.
