The Whitefish PTA recently gave a number of grants to teachers to provide funding for items that are otherwise not in the budget.

Whitefish PTA works within the district to provide support for teachers and students and fund items and programs. During the recent grant cycle, the PTA gave about $2,800 to teachers at Muldown, the middle and high schools.

Proceeds from two fundraisers per year allow for the funds to be given based on requests from teachers. Board members review the requests and teachers are urged to present their request to the board.

At Muldown, a number of teachers earned $200 grants for independent reading books, including Mrs. Ferda, Mrs. Olsen and Mrs. Prather. In addition, Mr. Lenzner received $400 for independent reading books and Mrs. Glaspey got $100 for materials for a bookshelf. Ms. Schuttler got $210 for a CD player and CDs, Ms. Garcia got $129 for a stereo system and Ms. Snipes received $130 for magazine subscriptions.

At the middle school, three grants were awarded. Mrs. Reed got $200 for paintbrushes, Ms. Carmichael was given $500 for a Kindle subscription and materials and Mrs. Holt got $100 for dehydrator fruit leather plastic sheets.

At the high school, one grant was awarded to Mr. Collinsworth for $500 for mat and framing supplies.

The PTA’s two main fundraisers are the Stumptown Scramble and the Believe fundraiser. The scramble is set for Memorial Day and those interested in playing should contact Christine Rossi at cerossi6877@yahoo.com.
