City elections
Filing for election to four of seven Columbia Falls City Council seats began April 29. Those include seats for councilors Shawn Bates, Dave Petersen and Mike Shepard and mayor Don Barnhart. For more information about filing and requirements, visit online at http://flathead.mt.gov/election.
Chamber meeting
The Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its May membership meeting in the Teakettle Community Room, 235 Nucleus Avenue, on Tuesday, May 14, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meeting will celebrate tourism in Montana, with a tourism roundtable discussion. Members are asked to bring brochures for show. State tourism material for 2013 also will be available, and RSVP volunteers will be honored. Lunch costs $10.
Plants & pies
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 401 Seventh Street West, in Columbia Falls, will hold its sixth annual pie and perennial plant sale on Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to noon. Pie by the slice and whole pies will be available for sale. All funds raised will be donated to Habitat for Humanity/Thrivent Builds. Whole living
The free Whole Living Community Workshop vegetarian cooking school will continue on Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m. at the Seventh–day Adventist Church, 269 Second Avenue East North, in Columbia Falls. This month’s classes will include “Hazards of Tobacco, Alcohol and Caffeine” on May 7 and “Why Eat Raw Food?” on May 21.
Spay & Neuter
The Flathead Spay & Neuter Clinic will hold an indoor garage sale on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the clinic, 3491 Trumble Creek Road, one mile west of U.S. 2 and two miles south of Highway 40. The clinic has provided nearly 30,000 surgeries in the past 12 years, preventing more than 115,000 unwanted dogs and cats from being born. For more information, call 892-7387.
Dog show
The Flathead Kennel Club of Montana will hold an AKC-sanctioned dog show at Marantette Park in Columbia Falls on Saturday, May 11. Medical fundraiser
A medical fundraiser for Tyler Huston, the Tyler’s Cinqo de Mayo Benefit Festival, will take place at The Zone Family Fun, 3240 U.S. 2 East, in Kalispell, on Sunday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tyler had a heart attack at age five and requires an expensive, life-saving operation. Big Brothers Big Sisters
The 35th annual fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County will take place at The Rack Shack, on U.S. 93 in Somers, on Thursday, May 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. with dinner, drinks and a silent auction. Tickets are $200 for two. For more information, call 752-0092.
Horse therapy

Consciousness
