A West Glacier woman died in a single vehicle rollover accident June 5 west of Kalispell on U.S. Highway 2. The Montana Highway Patrol identified the woman as 38-year-old Amber Morgan McAtee. McAtee’s dog survived the wreck.

McAtee was eastbound on U.S. 2 when she failed to negotiate a curve just east of Big Horn Drive.

Her vehicle rolled multiple times and she was partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

McAtee recently lived in the Thompson Falls area but was in the process of moving back to West Glacier, where her family lives.

Although there were no other people in the vehicle with McAtee, nearby residents later found a wounded Rhodesian ridgeback wandering around the area. The dog belonged to McAtee, Flathead County Undersheriff Dave Leib said, and somehow survived the accident.

The dog was taken to the Flathead County animal shelter and relatives were going to pick it up.

The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
