Richard (Dick) Brown

Dick left God’s waiting room in Florida to be with his Lord and Savior on July 21, 2013.

Dick was raised in Whitefish where he held a record for high hurdles and went on to run marathons as an adult.

Dick served his country in the National Guard and later became active Army where he served in Alaska during the Vietnam War.

He started his career in law enforcement with the Whitefish Police Department and went on to become a special agent for Burlington Northern Railroad Police and finally retired from BNSF Railroad Police Department as a senior special agent. He was a commissioned officer in Montana, Washington, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

In retirement, he let his hair and beard grow to become Santa on vacation at the beaches in Palm Coast, Florida.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Chellis and Elaine; his brothers, Larry and John; and his sister, Geri.

He is survived by his wife, Betty at the family home; his daughters, Shelley (Freckles) and Marlon, Sheila (Animal) and Sam; his brother, Ron and Connie; and sister, Patti and George; grandson, Bryn; granddaughters, Samantha, Haleigh and Ashleigh; and great-grandchildren, Stanley, Braxton and Arianna.

There will be a celebration of Dick’s life at the Hilltop Hitching Post Inn in Marion on Aug. 11 at 1 p.m.
