Author of new book grew up in Glacier Park

San Francisco author and publisher Bill Yenne’s latest book on Glacier National Park showcases the popular Going-to-the-Sun Road with more than 200 historical and current black-and-white photographs filling the book from cover to cover.

Yenne, who grew up in the Park, shot some of the photos himself. His father, Bill Yenne Sr., worked in the Park as a trail or road supervisor from 1932 through 1969.

“Going-to-the-Sun Road,” part of Yenne’s Images of America series, tells the story of the 51-mile long road that crosses the steep Continental Divide at Logan Pass from its inception through its 75th anniversary celebration.

Included in the softcover’s 127 pages are photos of key players in the alpine road’s construction, historical lodges and tourist stops, Blackfeet Indians, damage inflicted by the 1964 Flood, and Park crews hard at work building and maintaining the Sun Road. Locals will recognize a few contemporaries.
