As the new year unfolds, North Valley Food Bank executive director June Munski-Feenan, her dedicated board of directors, and the food bank fundraising committee are already on a roll. With the holidays over but many in our community still facing hunger, the North Valley Food Bank has continued to help many needy individuals and families since the beginning of this year.

North Valley Food Bank’s $1.5 million fundraising campaign, for the new building and endowment fund is going strong — just one more reflection that our community is characterized by “caring in action.” To date, $730,000 has been raised in cash, pledges and in-kind donations. Please stay tuned for more information on the groundbreaking ceremony for North Valley Food Bank’s new building, located at 251 Flathead Ave., in Whitefish, to take place this spring.

We are also happy to report that one of our fundraising efforts, the Krugerrand Raffle, has been going strong. North Valley Food Bank has been gifted one of these beautiful South African gold coins to raffle off; all proceeds are going toward our fundraising goal. For an opportunity to buy a raffle ticket, stop by our vendor station located in front of the Village Shop and Indigo Creek Clothing on Whitefish Winter Carnival parade day on Saturday, Feb, 2 for a warm beverage, information about our new building, and yes, raffle tickets. The lucky winner of the Krugerrand will be announced during our spring 2013 groundbreaking ceremony.

You may not know that North Valley Food Bank is a completely volunteer-driven organization. Its ongoing success would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers. For more information please call 862-5863, or go to our website at www.northvalleyfoodbank.org, or stop in the North Valley Food Bank at our current location at 311 East First St.

Thank you for your support — past, present and future — and wishing a happy, and food-secure 2013 to all.
