A 33-year-old Whitefish man has been charged with felony assault with a weapon after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and trying to stab her brother.

According to a court document, Michael Olivo and his girlfriend were having relationship problems and he hit her, giving her a black eye. When her brother went to talk to him, Olivo was holding a knife at his side and told the brother he had a gun in the house.

The girl later called her brother to ask him to help her move out of Olivo’s house. While they were moving out, Olivo allegedly showed up, going into the house and coming out with two large kitchen knives.

The court document states Olivo then ran to her van and began to stab at the hood and tires while she screamed and backed up to try and get away. Olivo then allegedly charged her brother, stabbing him in the chest with one of the knives, which did not penetrate his skin.

Olivo allegedly kept swinging the knives wildly, cutting the brother on his arm, hand, stomach and head.

If convicted, Olivo faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday.
