Les Arbuckle

| December 10, 2013 8:00 AM

Les B. Arbuckle 80, was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Conrad to Hugh C. and Evelyn Arbuckle. Hugh C. was a packer and guide. He raised sheep at the ranch at Swift Dam. Leo’s sister joined the family on Nov. 2, 1934.

In June 1946, Leo, his sister Margaret and his father trailed their horses from Swift Dam through the Bob Marshall. Leo told of it raining every day, going to bed wet, running short of food. With only a can of peas left at the end of the drive, you can rest assured he never liked peas. They made their destination to Coram. Leo lived on the ranch for 68 years.

Leo and Donna Potter-Arbuckle were married April 24, 1972, at the ranch. She brought her three children to their marriage. Leo treated Jim, Dawn and Jay as they were his blood. Loving the grandkids as well as their great granddaughter. He was Pa Pa to all of them.

Leo was a fair man. If he couldn’t say something good about someone, he wouldn’t say anything. Some will remember his fiddle playing and “Esther,” his fiddle.

Leo worked for 10 years for Will and Barbara Warner and 20 years for Canyon Logging.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Canyon Community Church in Coram on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. There will be a potluck dinner following at the Ed Building.
