Russell Erickson

Russell Donald Erickson, age 100, of Austin, Minn., died Aug. 24, 2013, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

He was born May 28, 1913, in Austin, Minn., to Melvin and Katie (Best) Erickson. After attending Austin public schools, Russell began work at age 15 at Hormel Foods Corporation. He moved to Montana in 1948, where he worked in West Glacier as a butcher. On Sept. 15, 1934, Russell was united in marriage to Eulaha “Uke” Allen at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Uke passed away in 2002.

In 2004, Russell returned to Austin, where he eventually moved into the Cedars of Austin. He loved hunting, fishing, and traveling to Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Katie Erickson and his brother Roland. He is survived by three brothers Robert Erickson and wife Darlene, Kenneth “Pinky” Erickson and wife Susan, and Donald Erickson and wife Shirley, all of Austin; and sister Nancy Zschunke, of Austin.
