The city of Whitefish will host an open house to discuss the U.S. 93 West corridor plan on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

The public meeting is an opportunity for residents to give their input on future land use of the north gateway to town from Miles Avenue to Mountainside Drive.

WGM Group and Sitescape Associates have been contracted to prepare the corridor plan.

The corridor includes a mix of uses ranging from suburban residential, resort residential, resort business, low-density residential, and high-density residential, changing to commercial after the highway crosses the Whitefish River and enters downtown.

A three-phase road widening project is currently underway, and will create major infrastructure and road improvements. Because the highway improvements will transform the corridor, city officials say it is important to develop a land-use plan that will steer future growth.

The open house is part of an ongoing public process that includes a project steering committee and three more public involvement meetings. The additional public involvement meetings are tentatively scheduled to occur from September to November 2013.

Steering committee meetings are also open to the public. Upcoming meetings are Monday, Aug.12, and Monday, Aug. 26.

The meetings are held at City Hall from 3-5 p.m.
