Gerald Wolfe passed away Saturday, April 6 at the Montana Veteran’s Home in Columbia Falls.

Jerry was born in Pershing, Iowa on Dec. 3, 1931 to Ted and Janet Wolfe. When he was 5 years old, his family relocated to Whitefish where he graduated from Whitefish High School in 1951.

After graduating, he served in the U.S. Air force (1951-1955) where he worked as an airplane radio mechanic. Upon discharge, Jerry returned to Whitefish where he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad for 38 years. He worked the rip track, was a fireman, conductor and brakeman until his retirement in 1993. Jerry married Joe Ann Hoffman on March 19, 1960 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

His passion was the outdoors where he loved to hunt and fish. He could tell you every place he ever shot a deer. He also enjoyed reciting poetry, attending Whitefish High School basketball games, playing cards, keno, whistling and making fudge which most will remember him for.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Janet Wolfe; his wife Joe Ann Wolfe; sister, Dixie Jenson; and brothers, Ted and Pete Wolfe. He is survived by his son, Gary Wolfe, of Whitefish; daughters, Norma Stidham, of Kalispell, and Gale Birgensmith, of Whitefish; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces and close friends.

He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family.

A graveside service will be held at Glacier Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
