Park plowing continues as weather turns cold

Glacier National Park snowplow crews have hit the Going-to-the-Sun Road while other roads have been melting out.

The Sun Road is open to vehicles as far as Lake McDonald Lodge. Hikers and bikers can travel beyond but should expect ice on the pavement in some areas. There are no hiker biker restrictions on the weekends.

Crews had plowed beyond Avalanche Creek to Logan Creek last week and will push further this week. After a warm week, the Park saw snow return Sunday night, with a few inches of new snow on the ground. The forecast for this week is for much cooler temperatures with a chance of rain and snow and highs in the 30s and 40s.

The Camas Road is plowed and is 90 percent free of snow and ice but not open to vehicles. The Inside North Fork Road has melted out on its own near Polebridge. The road is closed to vehicles but is mostly free of snow through Big Prairie and reportedly free of snow and ice about three miles up the Bowman Lake Road.

On the east side of the Park, the Sun Road is open to vehicles as far as Rising Sun, and there are no hiker-biker restrictions beyond that. The Many Glacier Road was plowed last week into the valley and is open on the weekends to hikers and bikers but not vehicles. Crews will begin work on the Two Medicine Road this week.
