Annual Bob Marshall meeting April 13

The annual Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex public meeting will take place at the Hungry Horse Ranger Station, in Hungry Horse, on Saturday, April 13, starting at 10 a.m.

The complex is comprised of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, Great Bear Wilderness and Scapegoat Wilderness, together more than 1.5 million acres and the third largest wilderness complex in the Lower 48.

The complex is managed by the Flathead, Lolo, Helena, and Lewis and Clark national forests and the Spotted Bear, Hungry Horse, Seeley Lake, Lincoln and Rocky Mountain ranger districts.

“This is a great annual opportunity to meet with the National Forest wilderness managers and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks staff,” Spotted Bear district ranger Deb Mucklow said. “This year, the ranger districts will be reporting out on some of the results of the ongoing  monitoring that has occurred over the last 25 years, as well as the actions that have been implemented in the past five-year period.”

The monitoring and actions are part of the “limits of acceptable change” plan for the wilderness complex, which was developed by interested individuals, partners and agency representatives. An annual newsletter developed by forest managers and FWP staff is available online at www.fs.usda.gov/attmain/flathead/specialplaces, which provides background and highlights some of the information that will be shared at the public meeting.
