Bigfork Elves called to order to prepare for decorating on Nov. 10
With a chill in the air, it’s that time of year again for Bigfork’s Elves to warm the area up with their holiday festivities. The first call to order for the Bigfork Elves has officially been made, and anyone in the community looking to spread some holiday cheer this season is invited to pitch in and help.
Seasoned Elves and new recruits are to report to Flathead Lake Lodge on Nov. 10 at 8 a.m. for this year’s tree cutting. Breakfast will be served until 8:45 a.m., and then there will be a brief instructional period on the areas for tree cutting.
Trucks of all sizes are needed along with chainsaws and axes.
Bulb twisting will commence at Flathead Lake Lodge at 8:45 a.m. For anyone who has seen “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation,” or who has helped with bulb twisting before, you know just how important it is to make sure all the Christmas light’s bulbs are intact and functional.
Children and teenagers are welcome to participate in the tree cutting and bulb twisting as well. Tree cutting and bulb twisting will occur no matter what the weather is like, so dress accordingly.
Active duty’s completion is anticipated for 11:30 a.m.
Decorating Day is set for Nov. 17 at 8 a.m. The Bigfork Elves are to assemble at the Bigfork Inn for sweet rolls, coffee, hot chocolate, and of course, some socializing before the decorating begins.
From 8-8:15 a.m. there will be a question and answer session as work assignments are made. Elves will meet their flight leaders and sign up to assist in different sections of downtown at this time as well. Decorations will be located on a trailer at the Bigfork Inn.
Prior to decoration, a group photo of the Elves will be taken.
Decoration is currently scheduled for 8:30 a.m. until noon.
Veteran Elves are reminded to bring their elf hats, and new elves will receive theirs too. Following decorating all Elves will be awarded an insignia of rank. Returning Elves must turn in their previous rank insignia to receive a promotion.
Empty decoration boxes are to be returned to the old fire hall.
Businesses in downtown Bigfork are asked to provide wire cutters, tie wires, screw drivers, step ladders, staple guns with staples, pliers, twine, brooms, shovels, garbage bags, bulb testers and extension cords.
Event organizers want to thank those who make decorating Bigfork possible, Bresnan Communications and CenturyLink for donating staff and lifts, and Flathead Bank, Rocky Mountain Bank, Glacier Bank, Harvest Foods, Interstate Bank, Community Foundation for a Better Bigfork and Flathead Lake Lodge.
For those unable to participate, but still want to help, donations to the Bigfork Elves’ bank account c/o Flathead Bank, PO Box 308 in Bigfork. They are hoping to replace more of the old lights and add more decorations. All donations are tax deductible.
