The Columbia Falls girls took second and the boys took third in the Northwest A divisional cross-country meet in Frenchtown on Oct. 13.

Polson edged the girls by just four points to take the title. Polson scored 39 points, and the Wildkats had 43. Top runner for the Kats was Samantha Mundel, who came in third with a time of 19:26. Meredith Stolte was sixth at 19:56; followed by Tori Price, eighth at 19:57, Carlee Brown, ninth at 19:58, and Brittany Swartz, 17th at 21:14.

“It was agreat day for the girls,” coach Richard Menicke said.

Menicke noted that Brown and Price ran personal bests, and Swartz shaved 50 seconds off her time the week before in Whitefish.

If the girls can bring together another solid performance this weekend at the state meet in Helena, they could have a chance at a medal.

The boys were third behind Whitefish, which won the event with 22 points, and Polson, which took second with 58 points. The Wildcats had 70.

Top runner for the boys was Zayne Brunz, who clocked a16:44 to take seventh. He was followed by Seth McCall, 12th at 17:14, Shonn Roberts, 14th at 17:36, Jayce Fagerland, 17th at 17:56, and Zac Fry 20th at 18:11.

Menicke said the boys ran well, with four of the five runners running personal bests. Brunz also ran a solid race.

“He held off some good runners behind him,” Menicke said. The team wraps up the season this Saturday at the state meet in Helena.
