Columbia Falls football season: By the numbers
With another football season come and gone, here’s a look at some year-end statistics from the Northwest Class A conference.
• On defense, the Wildcats were third in the conference for fewest passing yards allowed at 1,376 yards total or 14.48 yards per completion for an average of just over 152 yards a game. Whitefish was ranked No. 1 at 126 yards per game, and Polson was second.
Polson, however, allowed just 69 yards per game rushing. Columbia Falls was third, allowing 167 yards per game.
Polson also allowed the fewest points per game at just 4.38. Columbia Falls was third, allowing 24.56 points per game.
The Cats were good at picking off opponents passes — they had 10 interceptions, tied with Polson for second in the conference.
• On offense, the Cats were last in the conference in rushing, averaging just under 83 yards per game. Frenchtown averaged 325 yards per game rushing to top the conference.
The Cats were second in the conference in passing, averaging 214 yards per game. Whitefish was first, with 227 yards per game. Frenchtown threw the least number of interceptions — two. Columbia Falls threw the most — 16.
• In field goals, Polson led the conference with four field goals on six attempts. Columbia Falls tried two and made one — a 32 yarder. Longest field goal was by Libby, a 52 yarder kicked during its game at Columbia Falls.
• The Wildcats punted 24 times for 678 yards for an average of 28.25 yards per game. Polson led the conference with 24 punts for 949 yards for an average of nearly 40 yards per punt.
• Wildcat junior running back Zach Darling was fourth in the conference in rushing, with 65 yards per game, 10 touchdowns and an average of 4.8 yards per carry.
• Cat junior quarterback Jared Trinastich threw for 1,885 yards with a completion percentage of 56 percent and 209 yards per game.
He threw 10 touchdowns, which was second in the league behind Whitefish’s freshman quarterback Luke May.
• Wildcat senior Colin King led the league in kickoff returns, with 18 returns for 419 yards and an average of 23.28 yards per return.
