Teacher supports Lakeside/Somers School's decisions

I am writing this letter in support of Somers School District.  I have been a teacher in this district for 28 years and can attest to the high quality of our school system.  The district has worked hard to be fiscally responsible in the face of declining state funding.  The last time the voters were asked for additional funding was in 2006, when a levy was passed to fund curriculum.  Last year, the staff requested a two year base salary freeze and many took on more responsibilities to help balance the budget.

It is unfortunate that inaccurate and misleadinginformation was given by a school board member to undermine all of the great things that are happening daily in our schools.

Our staff is dedicated to student achievement and our students are successful, as evidenced by the State of Montana Title 1 2012 Academic Achievement Award the school just received.  We have a strong base of parent support and many community members who volunteer in the classrooms to further improve the education our children receive.

I am proud to be a staff member at Lakeside Elementary and would not hesitate to recommend my school to any parent who is looking for a nurturing, high quality education for their child.  Please feel free to stop by and visit my classroom and I will answer any questions you have about MY school.
