Grant funds students' video cameras
Students at Columbia Falls Junior High School will have access to six new Sony video cameras thanks to a grant from the Plum Creek Foundation.
The foundation recently awarded the school an $876 grant to buy the small Sony Bloggie Duo cameras, teacher Diane Marsh said. She teaches keyboarding and computers at the school.
Marsh said the cameras will be used for various student projects, including their own blogs. The blogs are kept private through the school’s Wiki pages on the Internet.
“Most students don’t have access to video cameras, or their cell phones don’t have video,” Marsh said.
Last year, one student completed a history project where she played the role of Pocahontas and was interviewed by a modern journalist. She shot the video in black and white to make it resemble an old film.
That’s the sort of project Marsh hopes more students will embark on now that they have the cameras, she said.
