The Glacier Avalanche girls hockey team took second place in the “B” division of the U19 girls state hockey tournament held last month at the Stumptown Ice Den.

The team knocked off a Helena/Bozeman squad 6-1 and the Flathead U14 team 8-0 to make the championship game against Salmon, Idaho. In the title game, Salmon jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and held on to win the match.

“We couldn’t quite break the net,” Glacier coach Lini Reading said. “I’m really proud of our girls for staying in the game. The rise in our ability this season came at such a steep incline. We’re all very excited about the program.”

Reading commended goalie Jordan Thorsteinson after her first season in front of the net.

“She’s come a long way for us,” Reading said.

Glacier’s team captain is Haley Craven. Assistant captains are Greta Roberts and Halle Reading.
