Bigfork High School’s class of 2012 graduates’ scholarships have a total value of $695,478.40 if renewed over four years. The total value for their upcoming freshman year alone is $221,769.60.

Total four-year values for BHS graduating classes’ scholarships typically come to over $500,000. About 80 percent of the scholarships come from the college the student will be attending, the rest come from private and local scholarships.

This total is just counting the scholarships the students accepted and does not include ones that were offered by colleges that students decided not to attend. If that number was included, the totals would be much higher.

“Our students do really well with scholarships,” BHS guidance councilor Christina Nadeau said. “I’m always continually thankful to our community and their generosity to our students and the support they show for our students’ post secondary education. Money does not have to be a barrier for going to school and these amounts are indicative of that.”

According to Superintendent Cynthia Clary, Nadeau gets scholarship information out to the students on a monthly basis so they know what is available.

“We’re just fortunate in Bigfork to have such great kids and Christina (Nadeau) does a great job,” Clary said.
