The 35th annual Rollins Fire Department turkey and buffalo barbeque is set for July 29 at the Rollins Community School House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise funds to update and refurbish the department’s fire engine and to help solve the water problems at the Rollins Community Club House.

Every year a team of volunteers cooks up roughly 700 pounds of turkey and buffalo. It takes a team of at least 100 volunteers to make the barbeque happen and the department is still seeking volunteers for this year’s event.

Last year’s barbeque had 801 guests which raised about $6,000 and the profits were shared with the Lakeside Quick Response Unit as they finished building their new facility. The goal for this year is to have at least 1,000 guests.

The Women of Rollins will raffle off a quilt made for the event. Raffle tickets are $5 each or six for $25.

“They’ve been working on a quilt all year,” Jim Hollensteiner said.

Tickets for the barbeque that are purchased in advance are $12 and tickets purchased at the door will be $14. For children under 12, tickets are $6 and $7, and kids under 5 years old eat for free. Tickets are available at Points North and M & S Meats.

Tax deductable donations can also be made by writing a check to RVFD.
