Carroll College head basketball coach Brandon Veltri has announced that Bigfork Viking senior guard Ian Lorang has committed to attend Carroll College and play basketball for the Fighting Saints next fall.

Lorang a 6-foot point guard led Bigfork to 19-5 record in 2012 and a District 7B Championship. He earned 1st Team All State in 2012 while averaging a team high 13 points, and three assists per game.

“I chose to go to Carroll because of the great academics that they offer and I was given an opportunity to play basketball,” said Lorang. “It was the perfect fit for me, and I’m looking forward to being part of a awesome basketball program.”

Lorang played for former Carroll College point guard and Bigfork Head Coach Kurt Paulson. Paulson has as good an idea of what the Saints look for from the point guard position as anyone.

“Ian is the most competitive kid I have ever coached, he is a winner and has demonstrated that throughout his high school career,” Paulson said.

“I look for Ian to keep getting better as a player once he gets to the collegiate level improving his speed and strength. Skill-wise he is a great three point shooter and that will be one of his strengths along with his desire to compete and play,” Paulson added.

Lorang will join fellow treasure state prep Riley King (Missoula Sentinel) as well as Jerome Idaho standout Jake Hollifield as freshman this fall for the Fighting Satints.

“Carroll is a great fit for Ian,” Carrol Coach Brandon Veltri said. “He is a winner and a leader both on and off the court.”
