Whitefish wrestlers continued to show good form against tough competition last weekend at the Buzz Lucey Invite in Eureka. The Bulldogs took second place with 145 points, behind only the 215 points from Columbia Falls. Libby took third with 131.5 points.

Freshman 98-pounder James Buckley picked up a championship win when he pinned Polson’s Thunder Morales in 1:31. Morales had pinned Buckely earlier this season.

“We’re really seeing some great improvement from James,” Whitefish coach Ryan Boyle said.

Judah Prestegaard took second place in the 145-pound class, while 171-pounder Kyle Bowerman also took second.

140-pounder Matt Sampson took third when he pinned Noxon’s Luke Crowe at 3:57.

Also making the consolation round were heavyweight Steven Quimby, 160-pounder Konrad Zinke, 119-pounder Skyler Bowerman, 105-pounder Dillon Thorsteinson and 98-pounder Colter Krass.

As a whole the team is wrestling like they know they can win, Boyle said.

“We’ve pushed them hard in practice and they’re starting to see correlation between hard work in the wrestling room and what happens on Saturday,” Boyle said. “It’s wonderful to see them believe in themselves.”

Whitefish faced Polson in a conference dual on Tuesday and travels to Libby on Thursday.
