Hall to serve as acting superintendent
Kym Hall, the deputy superintendent at Glacier National Park, will be the acting superintendent at the beginning of the new year.
Hall will take the Park reins, at least temporarily, beginning Jan. 1. She will fill in while a search is started for a new superintendent to replace Chas Cartwright, who is retiring.
Hall was named deputy superintendent at Glacier Park in July. She was superintendent of three small park sites in southeastern Arizona — Coronado National Memorial, Chiricahua National Monument and Fort Bowie National Historic Site.
While in Arizona, Hall faced some difficult challenges in dealing with border issues, as all three parks were on or near the international border with Mexico. Just prior to her arrival in Montana, she oversaw management of several intense wildland fires.
While the search to replace Cartwright will be nationwide, Hall has indicated she, too, is interested in the superintendent job. Glacier Park is considered one of the top jobs in the National Park Service.
Cartwright served as Glacier Park superintendent since 2008. During that time, he oversaw several large projects in the Park, including the reconstruction of the alpine section of the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
