A dozen loud bangs at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning in Whitefish were reportedly fireworks going off near downtown.

The incident spurred a handful of calls to the 9-1-1 dispatcher. A few residents on Colorado Avenue reported hearing 12 loud shots. One resident in the neighborhood was certain they were gun shots and was reportedly very frightened by the situation.

According to Wednesday’s police log, the firework suspects ran in and out of a downtown bar at 1:11 a.m. before disappearing.

Private use of fireworks is allowed inside the city limits of Whitefish only from July 2 through July 4 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
