Lady Dogs roll to win
It didn’t take long for the Lady Bulldogs to get their offense rolling. Senior Megan Danczky tallied a goal 30 seconds into the season opener Saturday at Stevensville, as Whitefish cruised to a 5-0 shutout victory.
“I told them to come out strong — and they sure did,” said Whitefish girls soccer coach Wendy Farrens.
Danczky also tallied in the 47th and 71st minutes to complete a hat trick on the afternoon. Jessica Baldonado and freshman Anna Peterson each hit the net to round out the scoresheet.
“The enthusiasim with everyone was obvious,” Farrens said. “It was an awesome team effort.”
Farrens said her fleet of underclassmen stepped up and adjusted nicely to the speed of the varsity game.
“We’re looking for freshman to make an impact right away,” Farrens said.
The defensive unit is still a work in progress, but Farrens said she can’t complain with a shutout win.
“You always like [a shutout],” Farrens said. “We’re still moving people around. There’s lots of potential to learn and get better.”
Whitefish next travels Aug. 31 to Libby then hosts Hamilton Sept. 1 at noon at Smith Fields.
The Lady Bulldogs lost to Hamilton in the semi-finals last season.
“We’re looking at Libby first, but the girls are anxious to see Hamilton as well,” Farrens said.
