Yes to medical care for all
Our granddaughter had cancer when she was 10 years old. Fortunately, after a year of chemo her cancer is in remission. Many of her friends at the cancer center were not as fortunate, particularly, those without health insurance for they would often start treatment too late.
Every year our granddaughter has to have an MRI scan to see if her tumors are growing. She will soon be graduating from UM and looking for a job. We are very happy that the Affordable Health Care Act was passed as she can remain on her parent’s health insurance until she is 26, she can’t be denied health insurance because of pre-existing conditions and there is no lifetime limit on the amount of medical treatment. Before the health care act was passed, we set aside money to help cover part of her future health-care expenses but now we can use that money to help fund our retirement.
Twenty-five percent of the children in this country live in poverty. Families that have trouble putting food on the table probably will not have health insurance. Children without adequate medical care will probably have more medical problem when they are older. I wish to thank the federal government for passing the Affordable Health Care Act as medical care for all is an essential element for a healthy, productive society and a benefit to all.
