Big thanks for city clean-up

| August 8, 2012 7:49 AM

A big thanks to the Columbia Falls Street Department and city manager Susan Nicosia for having downtown cleaned up in time for Heritage Days weekend.

Did anyone notice how all the downtown weeds disappeared and Nucleus Avenue was cleaned and swept? If you see these folks out and about this summer, please thank them for the wonderful job they did. It really helped to make our town look clean, attractive and a great place to spend a little time and money.

As a community volunteer who plants flowers and weeds in a few places around town, I notice all the weeds that spring up along downtown buildings and curbs. I think it’s our responsibility to clean up these areas around our businesses. Just a few minutes each month weeding around our own shops could go a long way in making Columbia Falls a more attractive place to do business.

While some responsibility rests with the Montana Department of Transportation to maintain U.S. 2 and Nucleus Avenue, it doesn’t always happen according to when the weeds grow. How about everyone taking the time to help spruce up the city during the summertime? It would do so much for our community.

Again, thanks to our city crew for stepping up to make Columbia Falls look terrific for one of the busiest weekends of the summer.
